2017 marks a prodigious 8 years since the car group “Sembakakis (38One Team)” was born. You may wonder why the name? The group started with like-minded Honda Fit/Jazz owners who were residing in the northern part of Singapore – Sembawang, which explains why they named themselves “Semba-kakis”. 38One is simply a direct translation from Chinese.

Regular meetups for coffee sessions, stripping of car bumpers, sharing of “poison” became a weekly affair for the group. The interest group developed strong friendship over time and soon the meetups were no longer only limited to car modifications. From dinner to movies, from house visits to holidays, from car parks to tracks, they have done it all.

8 years is definitely not a short time and it’s with great effort that the group stays well connected over the years despite the hectic work and family commitments. Like most car enthusiasts, changing of ride is inevitable in our COE controlled country. Therefore the group has currently mostly got different rides but their friendship stays strong.

This Pizzas ‘n’ Cars shoot meet in collaboration with us and Carousell Motors for Team Sembakakis is certainly a highlight of their 8 years, and marks a milestone event for them. We wish them forever friends!

By the time we publish this post, this minimally tuned 1.6L NA, manual Suzuki Swift Sports is no more. Such is the bane of our COE system, a perfectly working car being taken off the road. We shot this Swift Sports overlooking the heartlands with the central business district in the far distance, and beauty shots in the warehouse area. Kelvin was the proud owner of this JDM hatchback who after this, would have moved on to another hatchback that he fancies next.

Aftermath of track days.
These are the battle scars that will be a part of an important lesson. The road to become wiser and emerge stronger than ever before. The owner of this beautiful Honda S2000 is a NA purist who fancy neither forced induction nor superchargers. He prefers the age old trusty F22C inline-4 engine block produced by Honda for reliability and track stamina. One that displaces 230 horses to the wheels and redlines at 8000 RPM. And the good news for us car enthusiasts, we will see this legendary roadster on the roads through the next 10 years.

Together with the usual suspects from Carousell Motors​, we co-hosted Club A4, a purist car marque club consisting of only Audi A4s to their anniversary shoot meet at The Three Peacocks, just beside Labrador Park​. The event started in the morning and ended around noon. Activities galore for the members as they drove and stopped by the photobooth to pose with racequeens, joined the group formation at the parade square and then proceeded for catered food & drinks, followed by a club level lucky draw at The Three Peacocks restaurant.

With our partners in crime – Carousell Motors, we play shoot host to another “Pizzas ‘n Cars” session with a small but close knitted Volkswagen Passat Car Club. Perched on the rooftop of a multi storey carpark with a stunning backdrop overlooking the East Coast Park, everyone was largely undeterred by storm clouds looming in the horizon.

We have put together a short film featuring Vaune Phan and the tale of her little “from riding to driving” adventure. With the courtesy car from Liberty Boutique Auto, we took a day to film the various footages at three separate locations, highlighting Toyota’s latest hot property, the space-age looking crossover called the C-HR (Coupe High Rider), and Vaune Phan, a prominent lady biker to share her thoughts about the car.

From her own words, “Having been a bike enthusiast for the past years now, I thought it’d be interesting to share my perspectives and personal opinions on four-wheelers too. Now it seems that Hybrid cars are on the rise, as they’re not only environmental friendly, but they offer superb financial savings from having efficient fuel consumption too.”

Introducing the first of many collaborations with Carousell Motors, we hosted a 50-car strong ///Modsters car club comprising both German marques BMW and Volkswagen to a food first, photography second kind of meet at Marina Promenade.

The event took us three hours to get every single car shot at our dedicated photobooth, and then executing an ambitious “///MOD” group formation representing the ///Modsters car club. An entirely successful maiden shoot meet for us all because of the planning and logistical competency of the club’s admin team.

A shoot of the unlikeliest car combo but a celebration of two very close friends. Both of them overachievers in their respective field of expertise. The only things in common, the matte wraps, the nonsensical banter, and of course the instigation to “poison” each other with car improvement ideas.

Abi is the proud owner of his matte grey Honda Civic, and Ian, the proud owner of his matte black Mercedes Benz C200 which he refers to as his batmobile. With a bit of luck, we were able to spend an hour shooting at this exclusive location until the security shooed us off. Definitely satisfied with the outcome, judging at how sleek the paint works of both cars showed up from the bounced lights.
